Historical Tourism Activity

Visitation to Nova Scotia increased by 6% in 2015, and represented the largest year-over-year increase in non-resident overnight visitation in 15 years. 2015 also marked the second consecutive year of visitation growth to Nova Scotia.

Overall Nova Scotia welcomed more than 2 million non-resident overnight visitors to the province in 2015. Overall visitation increased across all of Tourism Nova Scotia’s target markets, with growth ranging from a low of +7% growth in visitation from Quebec to a high of +49% growth in visitation from the UK.

In 2015, room nights sold - 2.5 million - increased by 1% compared with 2014. The Halifax region was on par with 2014, while regions outside of Halifax saw growth of 3%. The provincial occupancy rate increased by 2 percentage points to 50%.
