Deadlines Approaching to Apply for Student Jobs Funding

Thursday, January 24, 2019

Many tourism businesses and organizations hire students through the peak tourism season. Students and youth help operators meet visitors’ needs during the busiest time of year, and also gain valuable work experience that will help them become the next generation of tourism professionals.

The federal and provincial governments offer funding grants to help business and non-profit organizations hire students.  Check out the programs below to see if you qualify for a grant.

Co-operative Education Incentive: The Co-op Education Incentive helps employers hire post-secondary co-operative education students for work placements. Employers can hire a co-op student for a work term of 12-16 weeks. Deadline to apply is January 31 for summer 2019 co-op term, and May 16 for fall 2019 co-op term.

Student Summer Skill Incentive (SKILL): SKILL helps registered charities and societies offer summer jobs to post-secondary students. Eligible employers can hire students for terms of 8-14 weeks in the summer. Deadline to apply is January 31.

Canada Summer Jobs Program: The Canada Summer Jobs Program provides wage subsidies to employers from not-for-profit organizations, the public-sector, and private sector organizations with 50 or fewer full-time employees, to create summer work experiences for young people aged 15 to 30 years. Deadline to apply is February 3.
