Hurricane Fiona – Tourism Industry Update

Tuesday, September 27, 2022

The efforts to clean up following Hurricane Fiona are well underway; however, some areas of the province suffered significant impact and there continue to be wide-spread power outages. We are thinking of all the tourism operators who may have suffered damage or are struggling to get their businesses reopened following the storm. Below is information that may be of use to you.

Disaster Financial Assistance for Hurricane Fiona

The Province has launched the Disaster Financial Assistance Program to help households, small businesses and non-profit organizations whose losses from Hurricane Fiona are not covered by insurance.

For further information including forms, please see Disaster financial assistance for Hurricane Fiona - Government of Nova Scotia.

Advisory to Travellers

The Province is asking people to keep roads clear and stay away from downed power lines so crews can safely remove trees and debris and restore lines. We are encouraging travellers to check ahead for road conditions and any road or business closures prior to departing as they may need to adjust travel plans.

See Tourism Nova Scotia’s Travel Advisory

If travellers require assistance, they can contact the Tourism Contact Centre at 1-800-565-0000 or email explore@novascotia.ca.
