Making Strides In Sustainable Travel

Saturday, June 7, 2025

Nova Scotia is taking steps to close the gaps for eco-conscious travellers with the expansion of its electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. As sustainability continues to be a priority for tourism operators and visitors alike, the province is making it easier than ever to explore in an environmentally friendly way.

In partnership with Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) and the Nova Scotia Department of Energy, Nova Scotia Power is expanding the province’s fast-charging network. This collaboration introduces 15 new 180 kW EV fast-charging stations along major highways and in rural communities, complementing the existing 50 kW chargers. These stations provide a high-power charge in just minutes, making trip-planning for long-distance EV travel more reliable and accessible.

With more than 100 public fast charging ports spread across the province, EV drivers can more confidently plan their journeys, knowing that charging locations are conveniently located along key travel routes.

Tourism Nova Scotia is also supporting these efforts by sharing information on available charging stations through PlugShare on our trip planning website. Plugshare is crowdsourced app that relies on users to update information and spans various EV charging networks (this includes stations for Tesla, Electrify Canada, Irving, HRM, Bayside Development Corporation, and Petro Canada to name a few operating in Nova Scotia).

As the network continues to grow, Nova Scotia is working towards sustainable travel options that meet the needs and values of eco-conscious travellers. We look forward to welcoming more visitors who share a passion for sustainability, ensuring others can enjoy the beauty of our province for years to come!
