The Trans Canada Trail (TCT), also known as the Great Trail, connects all provinces, territories and capital cities across Canada with 24,000 km of multiuse trail—making it the longest trail in the world! This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Trans Canada Trail initiative to connect Canada by trail, and it’s close to being completed.
On July 8, 2017 Nova Scotia celebrated 100% connection of the province’s Trans Canada Trail sections with festivities on the Salt Marsh Trail. Congratulations to all partners on this milestone, including Nova Scotia Trails Federation, municipalities, community groups and many volunteers. Tourism Nova Scotia’s 2015 Visitor Exit Survey indicates that visitors who engage in outdoor activities like hiking/cycling are higher value visitors, and spend more than those that do not engage in these activities.
On August 26, 2017, Canada celebrates 100% National Trail Connections with festivities in communities across Canada, including dozens of celebrations in Nova Scotia communities. From music and activities on the Butter Trail in Tatamagouche, to Mi’kmaq celebrations with Eskasoni Cultural Journeys on Goat Island along the shores of the Bras d’Or Lake water route, share the trail excitement and celebrations with your visitors, friends and family.
