The Province of Nova Scotia is participating in a NAFTA modernization initiative with the Federal Government and has asked Tourism Nova Scotia to share the information below with stakeholders.
The Government of Canada is officially launching its consultation process on the modernization of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) with the aim of seeking informed views on Canadian interests on trade and investment as we engage with the United States and Mexico on this important agreement. In addition to direct engagement of provinces and territories, Global Affairs Canada is inviting interested parties - Individuals, organizations, businesses, labour unions, academia and Indigenous peoples – to provide input on NAFTA. Views are being sought on areas of the NAFTA agreement that have been most beneficial to Canadian businesses, as well as potential proposals from the United States or Mexico where Canada could be pressed to take on commitments to address perceived trade irritants. In addition to areas included in NAFTA, views are invited on areas of trade not currently in the agreement, such as e-commerce, development of small and medium-sized enterprises, and regulatory coherence.
Global Affairs Canada has launched a web site on the renegotiation and modernization of NAFTA, which includes information on the agreement and the consultation process. The site (below) outlines several opportunities (on-line form, email or mail submission) through which stakeholders may contribute directly to the discussions.
