Halifax, NS (November 18, 2016) – The Tourism Industry Association of Nova Scotia (TIANS) will welcome hundreds of tourism businesses from across the province during the Tourism Summit – Invest In Tourism, taking place from November 20 - 22, 2016.
“Tourism is Nova Scotia’s most promising economic sector, employing over 40,000 Nova Scotians,” says Glenn Squires, TIANS Chairman. “The revenue generated from tourism receipts this year is expected to exceed $2.6 Billion.”
“The Tourism Summit addresses the issues and opportunities that Nova Scotia’s tourism industry is currently facing,” says Darlene Grant Fiander, President of TIANS. “If we want to build a strong tourism economy in Nova Scotia and double annual tourism revenues to $4 Billion by 2024, investments in tourism must be made.”
In addition to supporting this conference, the Government of Canada, through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), works with the industry across the region through its regional offices and Tourism Atlantic. The Agency has committed $141,496 to assist TIANS with its conference, as well as a number of the association’s key annual initiatives.
“Atlantic Canada offers visitors a rich variety of cultures, culinary adventures, pristine coastlines and a wellspring of natural beauty,” says Andy Fillmore, Member of Parliament for Halifax, who is attending the Opening Welcome Reception & Marketplace on Sunday evening. “This is complemented by the region’s most important asset, its welcoming people who are the key to the region’s extraordinary tourism experience. The Government of Canada recognizes the importance of the industry to communities, businesses and individuals. Its scope for growth will result in additional job creation and increased opportunities for broad-based prosperity.”
“Tourism Nova Scotia is pleased to be a partner in this event and we look forward to connecting with businesses and attendees from across the province,” says Michele Saran, CEO, Tourism Nova Scotia. “The industry has much to be proud of as we finish off our best tourism year on record. The theme, Invest in Tourism, is likely to generate many great ideas and discussions that will help us build on our success in 2016.”
The Tourism Summit encourages innovative ideas that attendees can implement in their businesses as well as their communities while inspiring collaboration. The speaker’s lineup features Provincial and National Tourism leaders, including an address from Michele Saran, CEO of Tourism Nova Scotia, Keith Henry, President & CEO of the Aboriginal Tourism Association of Canada, Gloria Loree, Executive Director of Global Marketing, Destination Canada and a keynote presentation by food television personality, Zane Caplansky - a pioneer and leader of Toronto’s food truck movement.
Working with partner associations and stakeholders, TIANS is committed to representing the best interests of the Industry, enhancing and supporting the development of a competitive business environment, advocating on issues critical to the industry’s success, and most importantly, leading Nova Scotia’s most promising economic sector.
