New Federal Tourism Growth Strategy

The Government of Canada has recognized tourism as one of the top seven sectors in our country, and has released a new federal tourism growth strategy to help unlock the industry’s enormous growth potential.

Alaina Lockhart, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Tourism, Official Languages and La Francophonie, and Andy Fillmore, Member of Parliament for Halifax, met with Tourism Nova Scotia and the Tourism Industry Association of Nova Scotia to share the Tourism Growth Strategy on May 23.

The Federal Tourism Growth Strategy sets six targets for 2025 (with 2018 as the baseline):

Nova Scotia’s tourism industry also has an ambitious goal to reach $4 billion in annual tourism revenues by 2024. Nova Scotia’s tourism strategy is focused on attracting higher-spending first-time visitors from national and international markets, and creating world-class experiences that will help motivate travellers to visit Nova Scotia.

With federal and provincial strategies in place, now is the time to work collaboratively to achieve our goals and further demonstrate the benefits of tourism to Nova Scotia’s economy.
