Tourism Nova Scotia has published the results of the 2017 Visitor Exit Survey.
Tourism Nova Scotia conducts a survey of non-resident overnight visitors to Nova Scotia every two years. The Nova Scotia Visitor Exit Survey (VES) provides key tourism statistics used to gauge visitor activity and is a resource for both Tourism Nova Scotia and our industry partners. The VES provides trip and visitor profile information, including data related to visitors’ trip purpose, visitor spend, activities participated in while visiting the province, where visitors travelled within the province and satisfaction with overall Nova Scotia trip experience.
For complete results, please see the 2017 Nova Scotia Visitor Exit Survey Overall Results.
If you are interested in seeing results for specific regions or communities within Nova Scotia, please see the 2017 Visitor Exit Survey Communities Report.
The VES alternates between full year and peak season surveys, since off-peak season visitation does not tend to fluctuate as much year to year, and the largest percentage of visitors can be captured during peak season. The 2017 VES was administered during the peak season of June to October 2017, and the data was combined with off-peak season data from the 2015 VES to provide results across a full 12 months of the year.
In 2019, Tourism Nova Scotia is conducting a full-year VES survey. Visitors leaving the province through the Halifax Stanfield International Airport, Digby, Caribou, Yarmouth, or Highway 104 (Cobequid Pass) are receiving a VES Survey Response Card. The Survey Response Card invites non-resident visitors who spent at least one night in Nova Scotia to complete the VES Questionnaire using an online survey.
Once the VES is complete, Tourism Nova Scotia analyzes the data, prepares reports for the province overall, as well as for regions and communities, and where possible provides a comparison of data from previous surveys. The results of the 2019 VES will be available in 2020.
