The Serve it Up! program is seeking employers interested in hiring high school co-op students for a summer internship under the guidance of a Red Seal Cook or Baker.

The Serve it Up! program is a culinary career exploration program connecting high school co-op students with mentors in the industry who are Red Seal certified. The intent of Serve it Up! is to increase the number of youth choosing culinary careers in Nova Scotia and to provide the sector with skilled and professional workers.

This program helps to address the labour shortage faced by the food and beverage sector over the next several years by attracting interest in the cooks trade and fostering the next generation of culinary talent.

Employers Eligible for Serve it Up:

  • Are interested in hiring a high school student in a paid, culinary position for at least 200 hours during the summer (July/August 2022)
  • Have a Red Seal Cook/Baker that is available to mentor the participating student

In preparation for summer employment, students will receive basic culinary training in advance of their placement, as well as WHMIS, Occupational Health & Safety, and Food Handlers training. Securing a summer placement will depend on the student applications received from schools in your region.
