Rural Nova Scotia Tourism Innovation Challenge

IGNITE Atlantic in partnership with the Tourism Industry Association of Nova Scotia is excited to announce the return of the Rural Nova Scotia Tourism Innovation Challenge, a regional start-up pitch competition designed to foster innovation and entrepreneurship in the province’s tourism sector. The challenge offers an opportunity for rural Nova Scotian entrepreneurs to present their innovative tourism-related ideas and compete for cash prizes and business development support.

This competition aims to boost the development of new and innovative offerings in the rural tourism industry, providing seed funding, networking opportunities, and support for participants. IGNITE Atlantic is proud to partner with organizations such as the Tourism Industry Association of Nova Scotia and Tourism Nova Scotia to further promote the tourism industry as a vital economic driver in rural areas of the province.

Pitch Events: 
November 19, 2024 – Digby Pines, Digby, Nova Scotia
December 3, 2024 –  IGNITE Northern, New Glasgow, Nova Scotia
January 14, 2025 – Port of Sydney, Sydney, Nova Scotia
January 28, 2025 – Bridgewater (Location TBA)

Eligibility:
To qualify, businesses must offer a new product or service related to tourism, not available prior to January 1, 2024. The offerings must target rural areas outside of Metro Halifax, and the founders must be residents of Nova Scotia. Participants can be at the concept phase, but the ideas must align with tourism and be presented in person at one of the regional pitch events.

Prizes Include:

  • $1,000 for Regional First Place Winners (4 winners in total)
  • 1-Year Residency at IGNITE Atlantic (valued at $1,380)
  • Coaching Session with Tourism Nova Scotia Advisors

IGNITE Atlantic is dedicated to supporting rural innovation across Nova Scotia and continues to work closely with tourism startups and innovators to help develop the region’s economic landscape. The Rural Tourism Innovation Challenge is just one of many initiatives driving growth in rural communities.
