Tourism saw strong recovery in 2023, with visitation up compared with last year and accommodation sales surpassing even pre-pandemic levels.

According to statistics gathered by Tourism Nova Scotia, Nova Scotia welcomed 2.2 million visitors, an increase of 14% (or 266,000 more visitors) compared with 2022, and a decrease of 6% (or 149,000 fewer visitors) compared with pre-pandemic 2019. While visitation from Atlantic Canada and the United States hasn’t returned to pre-pandemic levels, we did see growth in visitors coming from Ontario, western Canada and overseas.

Nova Scotia accommodations operators reported 3 million room nights sold in 2023, a 3% increase (80,000 more room nights sold) compared with 2022 and a 9% increase (235,000 more room nights sold) over 2019.
