Many travellers research their vacations online – either in advance of a trip, or via mobile after they’ve arrived. It’s more important than ever to help consumers find your business online.
Tourism Nova Scotia recently hosted an interactive webinar with experts from Google Canada for participants in our Digital Marketing Program, to provide insights into Google’s marketing tools. The webinar covered Google Adwords, Keyword Planner and many other digital marketing resources.
Even if you don’t have a big marketing budget, you can take advantage of free resources that help potential customers find you while researching their vacation online. Here are five tips from Google Canada to help you connect with customers:
1) Claim your free Google Business listing with Google My Business. Share information about your business to ensure customers find you when they search your business or businesses like yours through Google Search or Maps.
2) Enhance your presence online by adding business details and photos, and engaging with customers on Google My Business. You can also track information about who is viewing your listing. Learn more.
3) Make sure you have a mobile-friendly site. Over 70% of US travellers agree that they always use their smartphones while traveling, and mobile-friendly sites rank higher in Google search results. Learn best practices for mobile sites. If you don’t have a mobile site, you can create one through AMP.
4) Maximize your site speed. According to Google, 53% of visits are abandoned if a site takes longer than three seconds to load. Check your site speed; if your page is slow to load, this could affect your search ranking and deter visitors from using your site. Get a review and recommendation on your site speed and mobile.
5) Understand your audience better by learning what people are searching for and talking about through Google Trends.
