Gros Morne Institute for Sustainable Tourism Leading Spring Best Practice Missions

Monday, March 25, 2019

Nova Scotia tourism operators are invited to apply to participate in two upcoming best practice missions led by the Gros Morne Institute for Sustainable Tourism (GMIST).

IGNITE -Activating the Potential for Experiential Tourism in Rural Canada
South River (Northern Algonquin Provincial Park), Ontario
May 12 - 16, 2019

IGNITE is designed for rural tourism businesses and communities to learn to deliver memorable experiences by harnessing the unique assets of the community in its people, culture, and regional identity.  The training is experiential and combines elements of a best practice mission, community development and experiential travel training. The program involves a combination of physical activity, cultural interaction and engaging with companies that are well known and respected in the Explorer’s Edge region of Ontario.

Farm to Table – Culinary Tourism
Toronto - Peterborough, Ontario
May 5 - 10, 2019

This mission will concentrate on how primary industries, chefs, brewers, distillers and wine makers have partnered with their destinations to provide unique culinary experiences.  Participants will take in the Terroir Symposium in Toronto and hear from some of the leading innovators in the industry, and then travel to the rural outskirts of Peterborough, where GMIST has secured attendance at the invite-only Terroir 2019 Rural Retreat, to learn from hands-on activities with chefs from ‘Feast On’ certified restaurants of the region. Additional opportunities include learning from local farmers and culinary experience providers.

Operators who are interested in participating in the best practice missions are encouraged to apply by April 5, 2019. For details, visit http://tourismbestpractices.ca/
