More and more travelers are booking aspects of their travel online—from flights and accommodations to rentals, event tickets, and experiences. Not only is booking online fast and easy, it’s perfect for those planning travel in advance (as most international travelers do) and on the spot (think: right from their smart phone).
According to Google Canada, about 80% of people are inspired to book their travel by content they see online, and 94% of leisure travelers switch between electronic devices as they plan or book a trip. This means nearly 100% of consumers are planning to purchase or attempting to purchase your offerings while surfing the Internet, demanding online options from businesses large and small.
Find a booking engine
If you’re looking for secure, online booking options to allow for reservations on your business website, there are plenty of accommodation, tour, and activity booking engines available. Speak with fellow tourism counterparts and ask for their product recommendations, or contact the Tourism Industry Association of Nova Scotia (TIANS). TIANS offers mentoring sessions for tourism operators and may provide information around online booking through their Technology Program. You can also consider using an online travel agency (OTA), such as TripAdvisor, Expedia, or Booking.com. But keep in mind that OTAs charge fees, typically per booking.
Take your online presence further in just 3 steps
Once you have your online booking engine setup, there are three steps you can take to make it easier for consumers to find you and book you.
