Strong Tourism Recovery in 2022

Nova Scotia’s tourism industry showed strong recovery in 2022, welcoming an additional one million visitors compared to the year before! Accommodation sales in all regions of the province surpassed pre-pandemic levels.

Nova Scotia welcomed 1.9 non-resident visitors last year. While a significant improvement over 2021, visitation did not return to pre-pandemic levels, ending the year with a decline of 18% compared with 2019. 

Atlantic Canada continued to account for the highest share of visitors. However, regional visitation didn’t recover to the same extent as other markets, like Ontario, which was up 1% over 2019.

Operators across the province reported 2.9 million room nights sold in 2022, a 61% increase (1.1 million more room nights sold) compared with the same period in 2021, and a 6% increase over 2019 (169,000 more room nights sold). 

Room rates also surpassed 2019, reaching an average of $168 overall for 2022, an increase of 45% over 2021 and an increase of 16% compared with 2019.
