UK Region Looks to Nova Scotia for Best Practices in Culinary Tourism

Friday, January 31, 2020

Around the world, Nova Scotia is famous for lobster. Recently, a team from Yorkshire, UK met with Tourism Nova Scotia and other groups from across the province to learn how we’ve leveraged a successful lobster industry to create tourism experiences and activities that attract visitors.

Peter Andrews, a senior lecturer in marketing at the University of Hull, Liz Philpot, manager of growth programmes and policy for the East Riding of Yorkshire Council, and Dean Bullen from the Yorkshire Coast Business Improvement District, travelled to Nova Scotia to learn best practices for using locally-caught lobster to encourage visitors to stay longer and spend more in their region. They were interested in learning how tourism businesses, organizations, and government work together to build tourism experiences around lobster in Nova Scotia and incorporate our world-famous lobster into our tourism brand.

In addition to meeting with Tourism Nova Scotia and the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture, they also met with Taste of Nova Scotia to learn more about the Lobster Trail, and with the South Shore Tourism Cooperative to discuss the Nova Scotia Lobster Crawl.

We love to share the fantastic work our tourism industry is doing to create world-class culinary experiences!
