Yarmouth Provincial Visitor Information Centre to become COVID-19 External Primary Assessment Centre

Thursday, March 26, 2020

The Nova Scotia Health Authority (NSHA) is preparing the Yarmouth Provincial Visitor Information Centre building to open as a temporary COVID-19 External Primary Assessment Centre on Friday, March 27.

The establishment of assessment centres outside of hospital sites is crucial to the province’s response plan because it allows for accelerated testing in our communities, while alleviating a significant strain on hospital operations and clinical personnel.

The VIC building will be used only for assessments. No treatment will be provided, and NSHA will be arranging for regular cleaning and sanitizing of the clinic in accordance with their strictest hospital standards, and security to ensure the centre is run in an orderly and professional manner. The External Primary Assessment Centres will be in operation until further notice, and as long as there continues to be a need.

While our Yarmouth VIC typically opens for the season in mid-May, TNS will make decisions about VIC operations as the public health situation evolves.
