Marketing Initiative Attracts More Visitors to Atlantic Canada

Tourism continues to be one of the world’s fastest-growing economic sectors, and it is of strategic importance to Atlantic Canada. It supports 9,600 businesses and provides full-time equivalent employment to 57,000 Atlantic Canadians. Statistics Canada’s International Travel Survey indicates ACTP marketing efforts are paying dividends. Between 2012 and 2014 overnight international arrivals to Atlantic Canada increased by 8.9% and revenues grew by 15.8%, and preliminary estimates indicate positive growth from U.S. and overseas visits to the Atlantic Provinces in 2015 and 2016.

Nova Scotia Expects Record Tourism Year

Tourism, one of Nova Scotia's most important economic sectors, is poised for record growth in 2016. Tourism businesses benefited from a seven per cent increase in non-resident overnight visitors(up 23,000) this July compared to last, bringing year-to-date visitation totals to about 1,155,100 visitors, an increase of eight per cent compared with the same period in 2015.

Nova Scotia Shaping Up to Have a Strong Tourism Year

Visitation to Nova Scotia is up for the first half of 2016, according to results released today, July 29, by Tourism Nova Scotia. From January to June 2016, non-resident overnight visitation increased eight per cent compared to the same period in 2015. Visitation by air increased by three per cent and road visitation increased by 11 per cent.
